Cooktown Art Festival 2007
Cooktown Art Festival 2007
Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August
In 2006 our President Betty Clarke envisaged a local Art Festival here in Cooktown. She saw such an event as a way to promote the arts in Cooktown and surrounds.
After months of struggle and foot-work to generate interest she gained the support of artists, the local community and Cook Shire Council. With public backing and more hard work a submission was put together and was successful in obtaining Queensland Events funding to help promote and run the inaugural Cooktown Art Festival 2007.
Cooktown Art was on Show during the weekend of 10th to 12th August.
Art Auction Opening Night
Many visitors came and experienced the Art and Culture of Cooktown and Surrounds with many different Art Sectors coming together for one weekend.
Many involved themselves in indigenous Painting workshops and rock art tours or viewed the works of local artists including painting, sculpture, pottery, photography, music, poetry, crafts, and much more.
There were opportunities to purchase some of the works and many took a little piece of Cooktown home with them.
